District STEM fair Jan. 21 - volunteers/judges needed
Description
Organizers of the district's annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fair are seeking community and staff members to work as volunteers or judges at this year’s event, set for Saturday, Jan. 21 from 8 a.m. to noon, at Blaine High School, 12555 University Ave. NE, Blaine.
The fair, which is the largest in the state, is an opportunity for Anoka-Hennepin students at all grade levels to present findings on research projects and experimentation they’ve completed to the general public. It’s a great opportunity for students to engage in authentic science at a high level while also improving their public speaking skills.
Volunteer help is greatly needed for the fair to work
Parents, community members and staff who want to volunteer can help work at the event, or also judge the competition — both are needed. There is a strong need for judges. In past when the number of judges was low, event organizers had to use students (who should be participating in the event) to help judge younger students, so please consider being a judge for this event!
Prospective judges do not need science or math backgrounds - they just need to be a responsible adult who's willing to give something back to the community. Event organizers provide training for all of the judges. Teachers who volunteer can earn up to five continuing education credits.
