Young Scientist Roundtable event

Anoka-Hennepin students and their parents are invited to attend this month's free Young Scientist Roundtable event! Young Scientist Roundtable (YSR) is a monthly program designed for students in kindergarten through grade 12 and their parents to hear exciting ideas and developments in many scientific fields presented by experts. The events are free and there is no registration!
YSR dates and programs for 2016-17 school year are as follows:
- Monday, Sept. 26: Dr. Charles Woodward, University of Minnesota School of Physics and Astronomy.
- Monday, Oct. 24: Dr. Peter Olver, University of Minnesota School of Mathematics.
- Tuesday, Nov. 15: "Honeycrisp apples" presented by Dr. James Luby, University of Minnesota.
- Monday, Dec. 5: "Engineering wearable systems: From sportswear to spacesuits" presented by Dr. Lucy E. Dunne, University of Minnesota apparel design/wearable technology lab.
- Tuesday, Jan. 10: "The role of organic chemistry in discovering small molecules" prsented by Dr. William Pomerantz, University of Minnesota organic chemistry associate professor.
- Monday, Feb. 6: "Civil engineering" presented by Ann Johnson, University of Minnesota civil engineering.
- Tuesday, March 7: "Rockets for the sun exploration" presented by Dr. Lindsay Giesener, University of Minnesota department of physics and astronomy.
- Monday, April 17: "Environmental engineering" presented by Dr. Paige Novak, University of Minnesota department of civil, environmental and geo-engineering.
Get more info at the YSR website or check out past programs via the YSR video gallery. Programs are held at Wayzata Central Middle School (305 Vicksburg Lane, Plymouth) and begin at 7 p.m., followed by a teen roundtable from 8:10 to 8:40 p.m. for students in grades six through 12.
YSR is a partnership of many Twin Cities area school districts and is coordinated by Wayzata Public Schools Community Education. District partners currently include: Anoka-Hennepin, Eden Prairie, Hopkins, Lakeville, Minnetonka, Mound Westonka and Orono. YSR is funded in part by the General Mills Foundation and in the past has also receive support from the Vernon James Pick Foundation and FilmTec Corporation.
