District seeks elementary school Reading Corps tutors
Have you ever considered changing a child’s life by helping them learn to read? Anoka-Hennepin School District is pleased to be partnering with the Minnesota Reading Corps and is seeking tutors to work with students in kindergarten through third grade.
“The Minnesota Reading Corps builds confidence in our youngest readers and promotes a lifetime of good reading strategies,” said Michelle VanDenTop, director of technology and information services.
Here are just a few other reasons to join the Reading Corps mission:
“It’s an exciting opportunity to provide an additional layer of support for students that complements the work we do at the school level to accelerate students' individual growth in literacy,” said Director of Elementary Curriculum Ranae Case Evenson.
Reading Corps volunteer Kacie T., a Reading Corps volunteer at Andover Elementary School, said that she serves because she values empowering children to be their best selves.

Here are just a few other reasons to join the Reading Corps mission:
- Almost 25 percent of Minnesota’s third graders do not read at grade level.
- Third grade is critical, as a child shifts from “learning to read” to “reading to learn."
- Children who read well are more likely to graduate from high school.
