Northdale, Roosevelt middle school students help make a difference during the holidays
Students and staff from Northdale Middle School (NMS) in Coon Rapids and Roosevelt Middle School (RMS) in Blaine pitched in to help more than 800 Anoka County families in need with food and toy donations over the holidays.
RMS and NMS students and staff took part in sorting and bagging more than 20 pallets of food at the Armory in downtown Anoka last week, helping the organizational efforts of a local non-profit organization called the Christmas Committee. The group’s membership includes a number of retired Anoka-Hennepin School District principals and teachers — approximately 20 former staff members in total, and works in collaboration with the St. Paul Area Association of Realtors and their work with the annual Toys for Joy drive.
Additional local community volunteers and groups, along with 16 Anoka-Hennepin schools have assisted in the setup, distribution and collection of food and toy items, bringing much needed comfort to families over the holidays.
On Monday, Dec. 19 and Tuesday, Dec. 20, families who applied for help through the Christmas Committee website will come to the Anoka Armory to receive age appropriate toys (one toy per person) and food donations. Each year, Anoka County families in need can apply online by filling out a form.
