2017-18 Enrollment applications due Jan. 15, NWSISD due Dec. 31
In-district transfer and open enrollment applications for the 2017-18 school year are due Jan. 15. In-district transfer and open enrollment applications are available to download on the enrollment page or for pick up at schools.
The priority application period for NorthWest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD) specialty schools is Oct. 14 through Dec. 31.
To attend a different school, the parent or guardian of an Anoka-Hennepin student can apply for one of two options: an in-district transfer to a school within the Anoka-Hennepin School District or open enrollment to another school district.
The in-district transfer option is for a student who resides in the Anoka-Hennepin School District and wants to transfer to a different Anoka-Hennepin school from his or her regularly assigned school.
Under most circumstances, school district transportation will not be provided for students who choose an open enrollment or in-district transfer option. If space is available on a bus traveling to an Anoka-Hennepin school, the student may be picked up and/or dropped off at an existing scheduled stop. This requires completion of an application for Anoka-Hennepin bus transportation. For more information, contact the Anoka-Hennepin transportation department at 763-506-1125.
Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment. An application for open enrollment or in-district transfer is approved if: space is available under the cap set by the School Board; class size limits have not been reached; and a student's discipline history does not exclude him or her from approval. Spaces are capped at one percent per grade level for open enrollment and one percent per site for in-district transfer. If eligible applications exceed spaces available, spaces will be filled on a random basis.
Decisions are not made based on: previous academic achievement; athletic or extracurricular ability; disability; or proficiency in the English language.
NWSISD accepts applications year-round, but the priority application period for 2017-18 runs Oct. 14 through Dec. 31.
Students who apply during this period have the greatest chance of being placed in a specialty school. An initial lottery will be run about a week after the priority application period closes.
Students who enroll in a specialty school that is part of NWSISD may be eligible for transportation through NWSISD. If you have questions about the NWSISD magnet school application process, call 763-450-1303.
High school students can enroll in STEP (juniors and seniors) and the Champlin Park IB Program through the regular high school registration process. Anoka-Hennepin students who do not live in the Champlin Park attendance area and wish to participate in IB must apply for an in-district transfer. Space is limited.
