PREPPING FOR PRESCHOOL?
(5/12/16) Preschoolers learn best through hands-on play. Anoka-Hennepin Community Education offers preschool and enrichment classes and activities that introduces children to a classroom setting and following instructions and routine as they prepare for the transition to preschool.
Preschool enrichment
Enrichment classes and activities help children learn and grow. The Community Schools program offers year-round enrichment opportunities for children ages 2-14 years of age. Academic, athletic, recreation and arts activities are offered at various schools across the district, which introduces children to a classroom setting as they prepare for the transition to preschool.

- Community Schools, preschool enrichment: Community Schools classes are designed to encourage participation and independence, however, parent/child classes are also offered for when a child may need extra assistance in participation or completing a project. Activities and athletic programs are designed to introduce basic skills development in a noncompetitive atmosphere fostering teamwork and sportsmanship.

- Soccer, T-ball, Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, Golf
- Musical Theater camps
- Learning with LEGOS
- Little School classes introducing science, music, math and literacy through hands-on fun

Summer and school-year preschool offerings
There are still openings in classes at sites across the district for the summer and for the 2016-17 school year. Classes are taught by licensed teachers who monitor child progress and development throughout the year. Children gain skills and experience in following routines and rules, cooperating with other children, literacy, books and writing, science, math, art and music.
- School Readiness Preschool: A tuition-based preschool program aligned with the Anoka-Hennepin Schools elementary curriculum, which helps children prepare for kindergarten and become enthusiastic learners. Students participate in hands-on learning activities that are educational and fun, in a stimulating classroom environment that encourages learning through discovery and exploration.
- Kindergarten Readiness Preschool: Kindergarten Readiness Preschool is just like School Readiness Preschool, except that it is offered for free - based on income eligibility of families. Tuition and transportation are provided in order to eliminate barriers for families who may struggle to send their children to preschool. It is an intensive preschool program meeting 4-days-a-week.
