Welcome to my Mississippi Special Education Webpage
I am Ms. Oelkers. I have been teaching in the Anoka-Hennepin School District since 2004. I work mostly with students who have emotional or behavioral challenges that have become obstacles to their learning progress, but I have experience working with all areas of students with special needs. I have degrees in Elementary Education, Special Education, Psychology, and Human Development and Family Services obtained at the University of Utah, Saint Mary's University, and Bethel University respectively.
I have a particular love for those students who find the school setting to be a challenging place. I believe that all students can learn and all students have positive intentions. My philosophy is to help children learn the skills they need to manage their intense reactions and find success. I have been working with special needs students for more than 25 years.
On the personal front I have three grown children and five grandchildren. My greatest joy in life is spending time with them. I love to read, research family history, sew, travel, and decorate cakes.
I firmly believe that teachers and parents must work as a team in order for our children to meet the future prepared to make it the best it can be. Thank you for supporting your student's education! I am excited to work with your child and watch their growth. Together we can help your child achieve success!
