• Our purpose

    The Insurance department administers all employee benefits: health and hospitalization, dental, group term life, long term disability, health care and dependent care spending accounts, supplemental term life, worker's compensation, 403(b), sick leave and retirement benefits. 

    As the largest school district in the state, we serve approximately 8,000 employees who provide excellent and diverse educational experiences for our 40,000+ students.

    Insurance Annual Open Enrollment and Flexible Benefit Information 2020-2021

    Anoka-Hennepin's Insurance Annual Open Enrollment is May 26 through June 11, 2020. Changes made during the Annual Open Enrollment will take effect September 1, 2020.
    Open Enrollment brochures* are mailed to your home the week of May 25. Highlights for the upcoming insurance year are on the front page of the brochure. We have informational meetings set for the following dates and times via Google Meet. Dates listed have links to the meetings. Click on a date to join!

    Open Enrollment is the time for insurance benefit eligible employees to enroll or make changes to their insurance benefits. To make open enrollment changes to your health and/or dental insurance or to elect salary reduction toward the flexible spending accounts, log on to smartben.com, our electronic enrollment system.

    *Please note:  On the back page of the Open Enrollment Brochure, the district’s premium contribution for Teachers has increased to $700 for single and $1250 for family. Preschool Instr SR/KR should read $685 per single and  $1210 per family.     
    The Insurance Department has made the following revisions to our health care flex and dependent care flex due to COVID 19.

    Health care flex
    Over the counter medical products and feminine hygiene products without a prescription from a physician are now allowable. This change is effective March 27, 2020 for this plan year.

    Dependent care flex
    The COVID 19 situation allows for an election adjustment due to life event changes. COVID 19 related life event changes are effective March 27, 2020 for this plan year. Please reach out to the Insurance Department with questions at 763-506-1080.

    Examples of life events that would allow changes include:
    • Change in employment status for you or your spouse
    • FMLA leaveFMLA leave
    • School closing resulting in no need for daycare
