Kindergarten Skillbuilders and Talent Development Training     Training available online.

Kindergarten Skillbuilders  This volunteer opportunity is comprised of a variety of activities that volunteers can practice with Kindergarten students one-on-one in the classroom while reinforcing the skills that classroom teachers have already introduced to kindergarteners through lesson plans, including reading aloud, tracing the alphabet, sorting and finding letters, listening to sounds, counting and building number recognition.

Not sure it's for you?  Complete the online training and then decide if you would like to volunteer.  Only new volunteers need to to the training.  The minimum commitment is 3 months.  If you do the training and decide it is not for you, there is no commitment to continue.

Challenge Reading is a program for students who enjoy reading and want to share their ideas and thoughts with others.  Students will independently read stories selected for their grade level and then once a week meet with a trained leader in a small group setting to discuss their literature and participate in writing activities and connecting experiences.  It offers students the opportunity to read wonderful literature, use critical thinking and share their ideas in an enjoyable class with 6-8 other students.

If you are interested in working before or after school with a small group of students and have not yet been trained (or would like a refresher) the training is done online.  You would choose the grade you work with, the time, the day of the week, and the start and ending dates.  Minimum commitment is 6 weeks.  If you complete the training and decide it is not for you, there is no commitment to continue.

Math Plus aims to provide additional, on-going mathematical experiences for students who enjoy problem solving situations, show persistence in challenging activities, have a high level of interest in math at home and at school.  Students participate in math activities, led by trained volunteers, that reinforce problem solving, logic and reasoning, and communicating mathematical findings.  All materials are provided.

If you are interested in leading a Math Plus group before or after school and have not yet been trained (or would like a refresher) training is available online.  You would choose the grade you work with, the time, the day of the week, and the start and ending dates. Minimum commitment is 6 weeks.  If you do the training and decide it is not for you, there is no commitment to continue.
