ATTENTION 10th and 11th GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS
The mission of Blaine High School is to prepare your son or daughter for a successful future. The earlier your child starts thinking about careers and postsecondary education, the better prepared your family can be to make the right choices.
On Monday, October 8th students in grades 10th and 11th will take the Practice ACT exam. There is no cost to students for this career and college preparation exam.
For students in grades 9 and 12, there will be a late start (class begins promptly at 11:22 am).
Students in 9th grade have the opportunity to attend a career exploration event at our Secondary Technical Education Program (STEP) building. Space is limited so students must pre-register and complete a permission slip, available in the Career Center. Students in 12th grade are encouraged to spend this time visiting one of the many colleges in the area or working on college applications. A district resource, students may use to get started is: www.connection.naviance.com/blainehs
Students who take the Practice ACT exam tend to do better on the ACT. The ACT measures a student’s readiness for college, and is required for admission into most 4-year institutions nationwide. As a new state requirement for college and career readiness, the ACT will be offered to all grade 11 students in the spring at no cost to the student. Detailed information will be sent out prior to testing.
This practice assessment has proven to have a positive impact for the future of students and a higher score on either the SAT or the ACT can expand opportunities for college and financial aid.
