    Frequently Asked Questions

Where does PTO get the money to purchase items for Monroe?
The PTO coordinates several fundraisers throughout the school year, and the profits from those fundraisers go directly to enriching the education of Monroe students. Learn more about our fundraisers here.  We also welcome corporate matching donations (see below) and direct donations from families, staff, and/or community members.

Does the PTO accept corporate matching donations?
Yes.  Many employers have a Corporate Matching Gift Program that will match donations made to not-for-profit organizations like the Monroe PTO.  If you are not sure if your company participates, please contact your employer’s human resources department.

Where does the money from the fundraisers go?
The Monroe PTO funds a wide variety of supplies and programs.  Learn more about how PTO dollars are spent here.

Why aren't taxes and school levy dollars used for these types of purchases?
The laws are very specific on what state dollars and levy dollars can go towards. In addition, those sources just do not provide enough dollars to purchase some of the "extras" that make a school special.  Learn more about how PTO dollars are spent here.

What does the PTO do besides fundraising and making purchases to benefit students?
The PTO organizes several Family Fun events each year at Monroe.  In the past, the have held movie nights, roller skating at Cheapskate, Reading Night, fall dances, and more.  We also provide conference meals for our teachers, organize special treats and a staff breakfast during Staff Appreciation week in May, and help with Open House, Fun & Fitness day, Art Adventure, the Scholastic Book Fair, and other school events.
