Preschool, 2020-21 school year
Preschool serves as an introduction to the school experience. By exposing students to a comfortable and inspiring classroom environment, students are eager to continue to learn and grow in kindergarten and beyond. The Anoka-Hennepin School District provides high-quality preschool programming through the Community Education department.
Children gain important skills and experiences:- Learning to follow routines and rules.
- Learning to get along with other children.
- Literacy, books, and writing.
- Math and number sense, science, art and music.
Four program optionsThe Community Education department is proud to offer four preschool program options for both three- and four-year-old children, which has given the Anoka-Hennepin School District the opportunity to connect with and support students before they enter kindergarten:- Three-year-old preschool: Half-day preschool classes with two or three class day options - parents provide transportation. Open to families with a child three years of age by Sept. 1, 2020. Families who live outside of the Anoka-Hennepin School District boundaries are welcome to register after the initial registration lottery.
- Four-year-old preschool - option 1: Free, half-day (Mon.-Thurs.) preschool option with transportation included. Available to families who are residents of the Anoka-Hennepin School District with a child four years of age by Sept. 1, 2020, meet income guidelines, AND live in or attend daycare in the attendance area of the listed elementary schools listed below.
- Franklin Elementary School: Classes are available for families in the attendance areas of Franklin and Lincoln Elementary Schools.
- Hoover Elementary School: Classes are available for families in the attendance areas of Hamilton and Hoover Elementary Schools.
- Lord of Life Church in Ramsey: Classes are available for families in the attendance areas of Andover, Brookside, Crooked Lake, Ramsey, and Wilson Elementary Schools.
- Mississippi Elementary School: Classes are available for families in the attendance areas of Mississippi Elementary School.
- Sorteberg Early Childhood Center: Classes are available for families in the attendance areas of Eisenhower, Jefferson, Johnsville, Madison, Morris Bye, Sand Creek, and Sunrise Elementary Schools.
- Four-year-old preschool - option 2: Free, half-day (Mon. - Fri.) preschool option with transportation included. No income eligibility guidelines. Available to families who are residents of the Anoka-Hennepin School District with a child four years of age by Sept. 1, 2020 AND live in or attend daycare in the attendance area of the specific elementary schools listed below.
- Adams Elementary School
- Evergreen Park World Cultures Community School
- University Avenue Elementary School
- Four-year-old preschool - option 3: Half-day preschool classes with multiple-day, evening and Saturday class options, open to families with a child four years of age by Sept. 1, 2020. Parents provide transportation.
