Denise Schnabel, Ramsey Elementary Principal, named a finalist for the National Distinguished Principal Award

Denise Schnabel, principal of Ramsey Elementary School, has been named one of three Minnesota finalists for the National Distinguished Principal Award, an honor presented by the National Association for Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA).

The Distinguished Principal Award recognizes exceptional leadership, commitment to student success, and lasting impact on school communities. Schnabel’s nomination noted her leadership in strengthening instructional practices, expanding systems of support, and ensuring students’ basic needs are met through strong community partnerships.

Principal Schabel has a strong record of service in the Anoka-Hennepin School District as a classroom teacher, curriculum integrator, and administrative intern prior to serving at principal at both Evergreen Park STEM School of Innovation and Ramsey Elementary School.

Recipients of the Distinguished Principal Award will be selected by their peers across the state in October 2026 to represent Minnesota at the national level. Derek Bell, principal of Sweeney Elementary in Shakopee Public Schools; and Mary Holmberg, Principal of Richmond Elementary and John Clark Elementary in the ROCORI School District are the other finalists under consideration.

MESPA is the premier leadership resource for elementary and middle level principals, dedicated to connecting, developing, and providing resources for principals, and serving as a leading voice for Minnesota education.
