Hoover Elementary students organize annual community blood drive

Hoover Elementary students organize annual community blood drive

On April 9, fourth grade students at Hoover Elementary School - Biomedical, Health Sciences, and Engineering hosted a community blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross.

In total, 41 individuals donated enough blood to save over 100 lives.

As a part of the specialty program at Hoover, students at each grade level become human body systems experts and fourth graders are Circulatory System experts. Hoover fourth grade students learned about the importance of blood donation and helped organize the event by creating hand-made invitations and promotions for the community and also helped out in the canteen area during the blood drive to ensure donors got their choice of snacks and beverages after donating.

Through integration, Hoover provides hands-on learning experiences with a biomedical, health sciences and engineering focus as students focus on human body systems and the biomedical and technological innovations that keep us healthy.
