School Board Recognition of Distinguished Service
School Board member Recognition of Distinguished Service
August 8, 2022
The Anoka-Hennepin School District is led by six school board directors, each representing an area of the school district and serving the entire district. Recognition of distinguished service is provided to members who demonstrate the highest level of commitment in service and leadership to build a school district of excellence.
An area on the exterior of the board room at the Sandburg Education Center has been identified as a space to recognize honorees. A plaque explaining the recognition and individual plaques for honorees will be displayed. Individuals or family members will receive a duplicate plaque as a courtesy. Note, there have been a total of 60 community members who have served as school board members in the history of the district. If the Board Room Location changes overtime, the Chief Operations Officer will identify a space outside/near the entrance of the Board Room to preserve this historical recognition. This process document will be saved within the School Board Policy 215 Section related to School Board recognitions.
Nominations and decisions regarding distinguished service honorees will be made by school board members. Nominations can be considered annually. Nominations should be submitted to the board chair by November 1st. Upon receipt of a nomination, the Board Chair will appoint and ad hoc committee with 3 board members to process the nomination. The board chair will report the committee findings to the board at a November board or work session. There is no formal application form expected for this process and only sitting school board members can make a nomination. Community/Staff suggestions should be proposed to a board member to bring forth for consideration. Presentation of the approved recognition will be made to the honoree at the December board meeting.
Nomination criteria:
- Length of service should be equal to or greater than 2 terms.
- Board member contributions to the representative schools, content area, noteworthy policy, and/or other significant initiative to be clearly documented for consideration and possible inclusion on the recognition plaque.
Approval process:
- This will be a board process – there will be no formal policy.
- Ad hoc committee will vet, review and approve or reject the nomination.
