Mrs. Beck is in her 19th year of teaching Social Studies. She is very excited to be at Northdale Middle School where she will be teaching 8th grade Global Studies.
In 1998 she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography with a minor in Land Use Management from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. She then worked for the Office of Strategic and Long Range Planning for the State of Minnesota where she served as a GIS Coordination Specialist. While there she realized that she would love to teach today's youth about the world we live in and decided to pursue a Master's degree in Secondary Education. In the past Mrs. Beck has taught MN History, US History, World History, Geography, Criminology, and Civics in both middle school and high school settings.
As a member of the Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education (MAGE), Mrs. Beck is actively implementing Geospatial technologies. One favorite activity of students is to participate in Geocaching. She also strives to incorporate many geospatial technologies to get students to think beyond the traditional classroom and make authentic global connections.
In her time away from school Mrs. Beck loves to hang out with her family, as she has two children in middle school. Since both kids are busy in activities it takes both her and her husband to keep their family on the move. She she enjoys the family kitties, running, travel and most of all weekends at the cabin.
