Welcome.  My name is Thomas McCarthy.  I have had the pleasure and priveledge of working with students for over 20 years.  In that time, I have seen how young minds can not only shape the future of our school, but our world as well.  I selfishly take pride in the successes of our young men and women as they take what learning they can from us, and move out into the world to become our neighbors and friends.

I completed my undergraduate studies in Humanities with a Modern European Concentration at St. John's University, where I also was the editor of our college newpaper as well as a runner in cross country and track.  After substitute teaching in Austin, TX, I attended the University of St. Thomas, where I completed my Masters in Teaching at Secondary Language Arts.  Along the way, I have also attended the University College, London, the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and St. Mary's University, Twin Cities.  Obviously, I believe in continuing education in order to better prepare ourselves for our ever changing world.

At the same time, I work to spend as much time outdoors with my family as I can.  We enjoy camping, biking, running, hunting and fishing.  I do follow the personal philosophy of John Muir to "Keep close to Nature’s heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."

I appreciate your support of your child's education here at Blaine.  I also appreciate any guidance you may be able to provide so that I may best facilitate your child's learning.
