Hello! My name is Sarah Burkart and I have been the School Social Worker at Lincoln Elementary since 2012. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and Family Studies from the University of St. Thomas and Master of Clinical Social Work from St. Catherine University and the University of St. Thomas. I hold both a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with the Minnesota Board of Social Work and School Social Work License from the Minnesota Department of Education.
I am married with one daughter and we are expecting our second child in June 2018. Together as a family we enjoy time at my parent's cabin, family game nights, family dinner, movie night, walks and trips to the park. In my spare time I love to craft and sew and hope to do a craft show some day!
At Lincoln, I fill many rolls but most commonly support to students may need support with social/emotional health, behavior health, friendship skills, self-esteem, anger control, self regulation and much more. This is done in both group and one to one sessions. I assist families who have basic needs such as food and clothing whenever possible. I also work to support our families experiencing homelessness through the McKinney Vento Homeless Youth and Families Act. I also support all students in Kindergarten though weekly whole group lessons on topics such as the brain, belly breathing, feelings, Growth Mindset and many others.
For the 17-18 school year, I am pleased to welcome Brianna Havelka as Lincoln's Social Work intern. She currently attends Augsburg University where she is working toward her Master of Clinical Social Work. She is at Lincoln Tuesday's and Wednesdays.
If you would like to discuss whether I may be of support to your child, please do not hesitate to contact me.
