Hello! My name is Sarah Burkart and I have been the School Social Worker at Lincoln Elementary since 2012. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and Family Studies from the University of St. Thomas and Master of Clinical Social Work from St. Catherine University and the University of St. Thomas. I hold both a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with the Minnesota Board of Social Work and School Social Work License from the Minnesota Department of Education.
School social workers provide students with social and emotional support to promote their academic success. At Lincoln, my role is to provide support to students in a variety of areas includig mental health concerns, suicidal thoughts or actions, self-harm, poor attendance, behavior problems, self-esteem issues, basic needs, social or friendship problems, grief or loss, family change, academic struggles, and much more. Support to students is provided in various forms such as individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, skills training, some case-management, and resource referrals.
