Welcome to Ms. Hunter's EL classroom!
My background: I graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with a BA in political science. Following graduation I worked for several years as an aide in the state legislature and Minneapolis city council. In that work, I grew to really enjoy working with immigrant families, which led me to pursue an ESL teacher’s license at Hamline University. I began my teaching career at Wilson Elementary in 2005, and then opened the program at Ramsey Elementary in 2012. Working with students from diverse language backgrounds and cultures is wonderful, I have learned so much from them!
In our English Language program at Ramsey, we work with most students in their classroom during their reading intervention time. We use the Wonders ELD curriculum, which directly supports what they are learning with their classroom teacher. We read the same stories and discuss the same ideas, but with an emphasis on studying the English language.
In my spare time I enjoy running, knitting, and travelling with my family. I also love studying language: I speak Spanish almost fluently and have begun studying Russian. My husband, Brian, and I have two children: Linnea is in middle school and Evan is in elementary.
Thank you for supporting your student's education! I am excited to work with your child and watch their growth. Together we can help your child achieve success!
