Welcome to our Classroom Website
I am excited to be teaching at CBPA this year! A little about me: I am from Oregon. I graduated from Iowa State University and moved to Minneapolis to teach kindergarten in Eden Prairie. I loved Minnesota and decided to stay. Since then I received a Masters Degree in Elementary Literacy. I started teaching in Anoka Hennepin in 2001 and never looked back! I am proud to be part of the best school district in the state.
I have taught 1st grade and Kindergarten and this is my fifth year in 2nd grade at CBPA>
I live with my husband and 4 kids in Champlin (about 2 miles from CBPA!) My son Christian is starting 9th grade (HIGHSCHOOL!) at Champlin Park HIgh School this year. I have a daughter, Aubrey, in 8th grade, a daughter, Ava, in 7th grade at Jackson Middle School. My baby, Kiera, is in 4th grade this year. I feel incredibly lucky to be teaching in the community where I live.
My mom loves to tell the stories of how I organized a summer school in my garage and enrolled all of the neighborhood kids when I was in 4th grade. I even held parent teacher conferences and gave report cards out in August. Teaching is what I was meant to do and I feel lucky every day to be able to live my dream.
My favorite quote was given to me 15 years ago by my very first principal and it has hung by my desk every year since.
“I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”
Isn't that powerful? Every time I read it I get chills. I have it memorized and it still affects me when I read it.
I am excited for you to join my classroom community this year. It's always exciting to meet my new families at open house. I can't wait to meet you!
