Hello. My name is Alexandria Vang. I'm the media specialist, core support teacher, and ITT at Adams Elementary. I graduated from St Cloud State University in 2012 and this is my fifth year working in the Anoka-Hennepin school district. I am currently going to graduate school for my Media Specialist license at St Cloud State University - hopefully graduating in 2019.
My favorite picture book this year is Noni Says No by Heather Hartt-Sussman. It's the story of a little girl who just can't tell her friend "no," even when she wants to (like when her friend wants to give her a haircut!). Throughout the story, you feel her struggle and really start rooting for her. I love this story because it reminds me a lot of how I was as a kid. I use it as a story to encourage students to stand up for what they know is wrong and have the courage to say "no."
One of the picture books I read every year is Chloe and the Lion by Mac Barnett and Adam Rex. It's a hilarious book about an author and illustrator (Mac and Adam) that don't see eye to eye. In addition to the funny story, the illustrations are great and combine various forms of art.
