Welcome to our Classroom Website
Hello, my name is Ken Hiller and I teach Art at Compass Programs in the Anoka Hennepin School District. I have been a K-12 Art Teacher since 1992 and have taught in this district since 1999. I have taught a variety of art classes including; Elementary Art, 7th & 8th Grade Art, Ceramics, Crafts, Drawing, Jewelry, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture and Stained Glass. I currently teach at the Teen Pregnancy Program and the Middle Level Program.
I attended Pensacola Junior College (Pensacola, FL) and worked towards an AA degree in Fine Art & Graphic Design. I earned a BA degree at the College of Visual Arts (St. Paul, MN) and Concordia University (St. Paul, MN) where I earned a BFA degree in Fine Art along with a K-12 Art Education and Coaching Licensure.
Before my teaching career, I served in the military as a Naval Aircrew, Plane Captain and Ground School Instructor for a helicopter training squadron, as well as a Flight Engineer in a fixed winged, anti-submarine warfare squadron. I also served as an Illustrator for a psychological operations company in the Army Reserve.
I am married, have a blended family with five children and eight grandchildren. In my spare time, I love being in the outdoors gardening, camping, fishing, hunting and taking photographs of nature. I have an interest in anything related to Geology and Paleontology and have even worked for a museum digging dinosaur bones and other fossils near a place called Mule Creek Junction in Wyoming. I love creating art, often showing my love of nature within each work. I specialize in wheel thrown pottery, painting and drawing.
Thank you for supporting your student's education! I am excited to work with your child and watch their growth. Together we can help your child achieve success!
