    Welcome to 5th Grade math and science (also referred to as Inquiry).  I look forward to working with your family this year!
     
    2019-2020 will be my fourth year at Sand Creek and 23rd year in education, and all have involved teaching fifth graders!  Prior to coming to "The Creek", I spent most of my career at nearby St. Michael-Albertville working both in elementary and middle school settings.   I graduated from St. Cloud State with my undergraduate degree and earned my master's degree through St. Mary's University.
     
    My wife and I live in Elk River with our three kids and dog.  If I wasn't a teacher, I probably would have become a meteorologist because I love watching and learning about the weather.  When I'm not in the classroom, I enjoy coaching high school basketball and football.

  • Daily Assignment Planner

    Below you will find this week's current assignments which will be updated daily.  Please compare it to your child's planner to help them complete and return homework on time.  You can expect math homework via Student Workbook pages or Home Connections worksheets on a regular basis while science assignments will be more occasional.  Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

     

    Due to the statewide school closure, we will be practicing Distance Learning and using Google Classroom to conduct our lessons and learning activities through the reminder of the school year.  If you are unable to access your child's Google Classroom page through the Lock-and-Key, please let me know as soon as possible.

     

    For the week of June 1, 2020  

    Monday:  Watch Lines and Angles videos then complete Lines and Angles Google Form

    This is Severe Weather Awareness Week--please discuss with your family what you should do when severe weather is nearby; Thursday we will have statewide drills at 1:40 PM and 6:55 PM, so you will hear the sirens sounding in your neighborhoods at those times.

    For the week of March 30, 2020

    Monday:  Cubes Activity with Volume and Surface Area--try at least 5 different prisms; Find 3 rectangular shaped boxes at home--take a picture of all 3 boxes together, measure the length-height-width of each box, and calculate the volume of each box.
     
    Tuesday:  Cubes and Nets activity--see how quickly you can pick out the nets that will create complete cubes.  For volume, write a story problem about your three boxes--be sure to use the math vocabulary words included in the directions on Google Classroom.
     
    Wednesday:  Day 1 of April Calendar Grid; Volume Activity--create 2 story problems where you provide the volume and 2 other dimensions (length, width, or height) so we have to figure out the missing dimension
     
    Thursday:  Day 2 of April Calendar Grid; Volume Activity--create a 3-D prism from a piece of paper (cut out and tape it together to make a box)
     
    Friday: Day 3 of April Calendar Grid; Volume Activity--pick one of your 3 boxes and find its surface area (insert your picture into the document); Watch Generation Genius "Properties of Matter" then answer the questions on the Google Form found in today's Google Classroom post.
