• School Safety Patrols

School Safety Patrols are an important part of the Mississippi community. They work hard to keep their classmates safe throughout the school year. Walking patrols are crossing guards for students walking to and from school, and bus patrols monitor students riding buses. Walking patrols must endure all kinds of Minnesota weather, yet they continue to do their jobs well and they take it seriously.

The Coon Rapids American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary have supported this program for several decades. They provide all the patrol equipment for the schools and even host an annual school patrol party in the spring of each year.

Most patrols are fourth- and fifth-grade students, with a few third-grade students. Students need to apply in the beginning of the year and be approved by the Patrol Advisor, as well as their teachers. Once accepted, they must maintain academic responsibility and respectful behavior during the year in order to keep their position.
