    Problem 1:

    Your family asks you to mow the grass. They will pay you $.54 per half hour. If it takes you one hour to mow the grass, how much would you earn? If it took you 2 hours, how much would you make?  What would you earn if you mowed 4 hours in a week?

  • Parent Tip:

    Please let your child solve this problem in a way that makes sense to him/her.  Encourage your child to solve the first part of the problem in his/her head and explain each step to you.  Your child may think about doubling or using a mental number line.  When recording the strategy used, check to see every step of the solution strategy is shown and the child uses place value language ("5 tens" or "50" rather than "5").
