Welcome to my classroom website
Dear Jefferson Family,
My name is Mr. John Bauer and I am the Reading Specialist at Jefferson Elementary.
I would like to share a little about myself. I am married and have three rescue dogs named Brewster, Cinna, and Daisy which keep me very busy and often are the “main characters” in my stories.
I grew up on a farm in central South Dakota and went to school in a small town of about 500 people. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD with a double major in elementary and special education. I taught in South Dakota for three years before moving to Bloomington, MN. I have taught grades 2, 3, 4, and 5. I moved to Arizona last year due to my spouse’s job relocation but luckily we were able to move back to MN! While in Arizona, I taught 4thgrade ELA. In my free time, I love to read, go on runs (I am training for a half marathon and a “Tough Mudder”), watch movies, and watch/attend Minnesota sports. We also love to try new places to eat (unfortunately, I am an awful cook).
When I look back at my teachers and how they influenced me, I remember connections I made with them and lessons that were engaging and fun! I do the same for my students. We make lifelong connections to one another and learn how growth mindset changes how we learn. My students become problem solvers and critical thinkers. My students know I was part of them feeling safe, connected and to remember I cheered them on when they demonstrated character or were successful academically, socially or emotionally.
