2023-24 Above & Beyond Awards recipient: Amanda Eilertson
“In my 10 years in education, I have never seen a teacher demonstrate more care for their students than Amanda. She is incredibly compassionate and generous with her time and resources, and the positive impact it has on her students is nothing less than inspiring.” - Taylor Melius-Polzin, student support teacher at Champlin Park High School.
Amanda Eilertson goes the extra mile for her students every single day as an academic intervention teacher at Champlin Park High School (CPHS). She takes the time to connect with her students and makes time for one-on-one conferences to ensure students feel supported and have the resources they need to succeed.
Eilertson doesn’t just support students in her role. She also works with their families, counselors, social workers and administration in collaboration to build a comprehensive intervention plan to best meet student’s needs and help them grow. She has helped build a robust multi-tiered system of support at CPHS to help staff make decisions to support students.
“So many of my students are experiencing serious life circumstances that negatively impact their learning,” Eilertson said. “Through our conversations, I want students to take away a positive within themselves and feel strong and capable, and that I am in their corner and will always do my best to lift them up.”
As a result of her work, the intervention team at CPHS has provided students with more mental health resources, additional counseling support and specialized intervention programs for science and math.
“Amanda is constantly finding new ways to make our intervention program more successful,” Melius-Polzin said. “Our intervention program has grown by leaps and bounds with Amanda taking the lead and encouraging us every step of the way.”
The 2024 Above & Beyond Awards ceremony to honor Eilertson and 14 other exceptional employees will take place April 3 at the Educational Service Center (ESC).
