Plan for warmer than usual temperatures
(09/11/2024) As Anoka-Hennepin Schools welcomes students back-to-school the forecast is calling for unusually warmer than average weather temperatures. Here are some reminders on how to keep students safe both indoors and outdoors during these conditions:
- Contact the health office at school with concerns about a health condition of your student that could be impacted by heat.
- Dress students for warm weather following district guidelines.
- Encourage your student to drink water and stay hydrated. Students can bring refillable water bottles and refill them throughout the day.
- Student safety is a priority. High school student activities in the Anoka-Hennepin School District will continue as planned with close monitoring of high heat temperatures forecasted. This notice applies consistently to all athletic programs in the district both outdoor and indoor and also includes marching band, dance, and other co-curricular programs.
- The district follows student-athlete safety advice provided by the Minnesota High School League regarding activities during times of extreme heat. Consult these resources for additional information.
- As always, parents and guardians make the final decision on whether to send their child to school. If a parent or guardian chooses to keep their child home because of weather, the student will be excused as long as the absence is reported to their school.
Thank you for your attention to this message and your support of your student(s) as the 2024-25 school year begins.
