School district operations to be held as planned Monday, June 16, 2025

(06/15/2025) Anoka-Hennepin School District administration has been monitoring the ongoing investigation into the attacks on Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband; and Senator John Hoffman and his family; which initially impacted a Brooklyn Park neighborhood with a shelter-in-place order on Saturday, June 14.

School district administration values its partnership with local law enforcement partners and works closely with public safety departments to ensure school facilities are safe for operations. Anoka-Hennepin Schools plans to hold academic and enrichment programming as planned tomorrow, Monday, June 16, 2025. This includes summer school, community education programming such as Adventures Plus school-age care and Community Schools, and high school activities and athletics.

The district takes the safety of its students and staff seriously, and schools use a multi-layered approach to prepare and protect school safety. At the core of this effort are positive relationships and public safety partnerships, structural and physical systems, the use of technology and clear communication. School district administration will remain in contact with local law enforcement partners and take appropriate action if school schedules need to change.

This recent act of violence in our community is unsettling and likely impacts many of our staff and families, as Hortman and Hoffman have dedicated their work to bettering our communities by serving Minnesotans in their professional roles - while also being neighbors, friends and family to many. Please keep their loved ones, colleagues and community partners in your thoughts during this challenging time.
