Two years of travel impacts along Highway 10 in Anoka start Monday, March 28
(03/22/2022) The long awaited Highway 10 improvement project in Anoka starts Monday, March 28, bringing with it long-term benefits to the entire region and expected traffic impacts over the next two years. Anoka-Hennepin Schools transportation department has been busy planning for potential impacts to the 88 routes that access this area, along with potential delays for employees traveling to the Anoka-Hennepin Educational Services Center.
Beginning Monday, March 28, construction crews will begin setting up traffic control to restrict traffic to a single lane in each direction on 2.5 miles of Highway 10 in Anoka. MnDOT and the city of Anoka are working together to reconstruct and improve roads and bridges on Hwy 10 between Thurston Ave. and 7th Ave. through Anoka. When complete, the two-year Hwy 10 Anoka project will improve traffic flow, decrease traffic delays and increase safety. Review a full list of improvements and register for email updates on the MnDot project website. View a video presentation of the project from Keith Paulson, director of transportation for the Anoka-Hennepin Schools.
The school district’s transportation department recommends parents, guardians and students interested in tracking their bus to use the Firstview app available for free download on the iTunes store or Google Play store. Anoka-Hennepin will stay in communication with bus companies and push notices of delays or travel impacts through the Firstview app and through email and text message.
Anoka-Hennepin Schools has 22 school sites that are impacted by possible travel delays as a result of the Highway 10 improvements. MnDOT recommends that drivers plan for expected delays, follow signed detour routes during closures and stay out of neighborhoods along the highway. Construction is expected to be complete by the spring of 2024.
