Community meetings on attendance boundary proposals beginning April 17
A variety of factors are causing a need to balance student enrollment all across the district at the elementary and middle school levels, including the addition of two new elementary schools, the removal of portable classrooms, and an addressment of class size.
Anoka-Hennepin is almost two months into the attendance boundary change process. The School Board received feedback from about 1,400 community members between late February and mid-March. Additional proposals have been created incorporating some of the thoughts shared thus far. Information on these new proposals will be presented, with a feedback opportunity, at school community meetings in the coming weeks:
- 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 at Roosevelt Middle School.
- 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at Evergreen Park World Cultures Community School.
- 7 to 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at Monroe Elementary School.
Information on all proposals will be shared, with a feedback opportunity, at five cluster community meetings. They are as follows:
- 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18 at Coon Rapids High School.
- 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 30 at Blaine High School.
- 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 at Champlin Park High School.
- 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at Anoka High School.
- 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 at Andover High School.
As it stands, there are two proposals for elementary schools in the Andover cluster, two proposals for the elementary schools in the Anoka cluster, one proposal for the elementary schools and three for the middle schools in the Blaine cluster, two proposals for the elementary schools in the Champlin Park cluster, and one proposal for the elementary schools and three for the middle schools in the Coon Rapids cluster. In all five clusters, high school boundaries are not proposed to change.
The School Board is tentatively set to approve attendance boundaries this September. They would go into effect the 2019-20 school year.
