2019-20 School assignment letters being re-sent via mail
(11/08/2018) By the end of next week, all students kindergarten through seventh grade should receive a letter by mail indicating their assigned school for the 2019-20 school year. Because of a mechanical issue with the district’s mail vendor the first days of November, families will be receiving the letter either for the first time or a second time.
As new attendance boundaries are going into effect next year, some school assignments are changing. Students and parents/guardians that have questions on their letter should contact the district’s Information Services department at boundaries@ahschools.us or 763-506-1030.
No action needs to be taken, however, families interested in applying for in-district transfer – current Anoka-Hennepin families wanting to go to a school other than their assigned site and provide transportation – can begin submitting applications Dec. 1, 2018. All requests must be sent in by Jan. 15, 2019. Results will be shared via mail Feb. 15, 2019.
Families interested in Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD) specialty schools – Monroe and University Avenue elementary schools – may start sending in their applications via NWSISD now.
The School Board approved new attendance boundaries for several elementary schools and Blaine and Coon Rapids middle schools at its September meeting. The process included more than seven months of community engagement – in fact, five of the six new attendance boundaries are alternate plans that included community suggestions:
- Andover cluster elementary schools: proposal two
- Anoka cluster elementary schools: proposal two
- Blaine cluster elementary schools: proposal one
- Champlin Park cluster elementary schools: proposal two
- Coon Rapids cluster elementary schools: proposal two
- Blaine and Coon Rapids middle schools: proposal two
Changes can understandably be tough. “This is never an easy task,” said Tom Heidemann, School Board Chair. Understanding this, board members shared throughout the seven-month attendance boundary process that educational programs and services are similar throughout the district. “We have great schools everywhere in Anoka-Hennepin – you can count on that," said Chair Heidemann. Special activities will be held next spring, summer and fall to welcome and support students and families relocating schools.
