School Board meeting offers annual update on how district is ‘achieving academic excellence’
(10/25/19) Anoka-Hennepin’s School Board will hear this year’s Achieving Academic Excellence report at its regular meeting Oct. 28, which will include a progress report on the district’s work with regard to state World’s Best Workforce (WBWF) and Achievement and Integration programming.
The report will delve into the legislative components of both, and also update the board and community on the district's five WBWF strategies, which include improving kindergarten readiness, ensuring students can read well by grade three, closing the achievement gap, providing education to ensure college and career readiness, and improving high school graduation rates. Meanwhile, with regard to Achievement and Integration programming, the board and community will learn more about the district’s three-year plan (2017-2020) and see a summary of activities and programming.
In addition, the report includes information about Anoka-Hennepin’s continuous improvement process, and offers a look at district-tracked student achievement data.
Among the highlights of the report:
- Nearly all students report feeling good about their future, and students across all levels report having a good relationship with teachers.
- Anoka-Hennepin’s graduation rates are at an all-time high, with nearly 87 percent of students graduating in four years.
- Almost 90 percent of high school seniors have taken at least one potential college credit-earning course during high school.
- At all levels in all subjects, Anoka-Hennepin students performed above the state average on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA), even though the district is demographically similar to the state.
- Anoka-Hennepin's MCA percentile ranking in the state either remained the same or increased across all levels in all subject areas, with the exception of middle school reading. However, middle school reading proficiency percentages have increased in six of the last seven years.
The Achieving Academic Excellence report will be available following the School Board meeting. The meeting will be held at the Sandburg Education Center, 1902 2nd Avenue, Anoka, starting at 6:30 p.m. You can stream the School Board meeting live, or watch the meeting later on the district’s website.
