Blaine High School CEMS program celebrate senior capstone projects
(05/292025) The Blaine High School (BHS) Center for Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (CEMS) program showcased the culmination of program achievements with its annual senior capstone project presentations on Thursday, May 15.
The event celebrated the ingenuity and problem-solving skills of approximately 112 graduating seniors from the class of 2025, forming 24 project teams. Throughout the school year, teams are tasked with identifying and addressing a challenge, drawing inspiration from their personal interests, after-school jobs, activities or hobbies. Following an engineering design process, students conduct research, plan concepts and solutions, and construct functional prototypes. The journey from initial idea to final presentation involves testing, refinement, and collaboration, preparing students not only for the capstone presentation event - but also for future academic and professional aspirations.
The opportunity provided students with a platform to share their unique solutions to real-world problems with BHS staff, classmates, community mentors, and their families, before moving to the cafeteria where prototypes were displayed. Project teams engaged with judges and evaluators in small groups before being honored with a distinctive CEMS medal, a testament to their accomplishments.
Graduates from the CEMS program are well-prepared for their next steps, whether pursuing higher education in STEM fields or embarking on professional careers, with many earning scholar designations based on their commitment to program requirements and advanced coursework.
