On this day in Black History, Nelson Mandela was released from prison after spending 27 years as a political prisoner of the South African government. He is a global icon for his role in peacefully dismantling the apartheid regime and advocating for racial equality, earning him a Nobel Peace Prize. Mandela would become the country's first black President in 1994.

Student Council is sponsoring this week's spirit week. Tomorrow's theme is "Read Like A Champion," so wear your sports attire.
