Distance Learning Message 3/29/20
I hope this message finds you all well. I am proud of all of the work that our staff has done over this past week to prepare for distance learning. We are ready to take this new adventure along with the students. We expect a smooth transition, but we know there may be questions or hiccups in the short-term. With each lesson and activity completed, I know that students, parents, and teachers will gain confidence with the system and find success.
Google Classroom & Frequently Asked Questions Resource
Students will access Google Classroom through their school account for lessons and activities. Students should know their login and passwords; however, below is a link to provide more information. If a student needs help with password questions, they can call 763.506.HELP for assistance.
The following link will help you get started with distance learning and is a great resource for answers to questions you may have, which includes technical support information.
Teacher Schedule – Student School Day
Teachers are expected to have lessons uploaded to Google Classroom by 9:00 am each day. Students will be able to log into their course Google Classrooms and complete the lesson or activities for classes throughout the day – there is no set schedule. Instruction will take place in a variety of ways, which could include: links, videos, Google Meets/Hangout, etc. It is important that students log into each of their classes Google Classrooms to review what the teachers have provided. All teachers have the same designated “office hours” where they are available to answer questions from parents and students. These hours are 9:00 to 11:00 am Tuesday through Friday and 1:00 to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. Please reach out to the teachers directly for questions related to lessons and activities. Unless the teacher has noted otherwise, email may be the preferred method to address questions as we start this work. You can email questions any time, but the designated office hours are set aside for teachers to work on responding to communication. Please be patient as we begin distance learning.
School Office Hours
During the next number of weeks, in adherence to the governor’s “stay at home” order, we will have limited staff at Oak View. The main office will be staffed from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm each day. We discourage people from coming to the building during the “stay at home” order; however, if you were not able to pick up your instrument or locker contents, you can call and make arrangements between 10:00 and 2:00. Staff were directed to plan lessons as if students only had access to electronic devices and locker contents, so items in individual classrooms are not available at this time.
Remember, we’re here to help. Classroom lesson and activities questions should go to teachers directly. Technical questions should go to the tech support line by area high school: Tech Support
If you need additional support, please contact your child’s grade level administrator. A reminder that Mr. Zapzalka Todd.Zapzalka@ahschools.us) supports sixth graders, Mrs. Law (Beth.Law@ahschools.us) supports seventh grade, and Mrs. Richardson (Mary.Richardson@ahschools.us) works with our eighth graders. Again, as we get started with this work, email is the most efficient way to communicate.
