New student drop-off/pick-up system at Monroe to begin with new school year on Sept. 2

Monroe Elementary map(08/20/2025) The location for student morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up for Monroe Elementary families will change beginning with the 2025-26 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 2. This change follows public review and comment and cooperative work with the City of Brooklyn Park held over the past several months.

The new plan: Bus traffic and parent drop-off and pick-up locations will now be located at the south entrance of Monroe Elementary with access from Meadowood Drive. This basically reverses locations with bus traffic from the current location at the north side of the building off Brookdale Drive. View the map for details

Improving safety: The new location for drop-off and pick-up is intended to improve student, staff, and traffic safety as vehicles were backing up on Brookdale Drive during the morning hours between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and in the afternoon from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p..m. causing congestion and safety concerns for students and motorists. In an effort to be a good neighbor, please access the school by using Meadowood Drive and Humboldt Avenue.

By the numbers: Approximately 90 vehicles are picking up and dropping off students at Monroe. This new system will move school bus traffic to the front of the school. These procedures will only be in place when school is in session, 170 days per year.

Anoka-Hennepin Schools worked cooperatively with the City of Brooklyn Park and hosted a community meeting to share details on the new system and address concerns and questions from neighbors. Feedback received during this process determined that the new procedures would proceed as proposed.
