Anoka-Hennepin high school students attend Anoka County Career Fair
Anoka-Hennepin high school students got the opportunity to attend The Anoka County Career Fair on Feb. 7, which was held at Anoka Technical College.
This year had a big turnout — more than 190 employers took part in the event, and a total of 180 district high school students attended to learn about careers and potential work opportunities, 150 of whom came from Anoka-Hennepin’s Secondary Technical Education Program (STEP).
During the fair, students got to listen to a panel made up of six employers from various fields, — manufacturing, senior services, union trade workers, agriculture, automotive, and early childhood education — and each panelist provided details about the types of jobs in their career field, qualifications needed to apply, and what they look for in the employees that they hire.
"It’s a great opportunity for students to meet face-to-face with employers," said Bill Voigt, career and college specialist, with the STEP program.
Immediately following the employer panel, STEP students got the opportunity to talk one-on-one with employers to connect and ask any additional questions about their career fields.
