New principals ready to start school year at four district elementary schools
(08/29/19) Two Anoka-Hennepin elementary schools will have new principals for the 2019-20 school year in addition to the principals at the new elementary schools in Blaine (Sunrise Elementary School) and Ramsey (Brookside Elementary School), which were announced last spring.
Missy Monson was named the new principal at Oxbow Creek Elementary School in Brooklyn Park following the retirement of longtime principal Rolf Carlsen. Monson was previously the principal at Hamilton Elementary School in Coon Rapids.
Prior to her time at Hamilton, Monson was an administrative intern at Oxbow Creek and before that she was an assistant principal at Eisenhower Elementary School in Coon Rapids. Before getting into administration, Monson served as a kindergarten, first and second grade teacher, and as a district intervention specialist and instructional coach.
Julie Bowman is the new principal at Hamilton after previously serving as an assistant principal at Johnsville Elementary School in Blaine. Prior to her role as an assistant principal, Bowman served as an administrative intern at Crooked Lake Elementary School in Andover. She also led Crooked Lake’s initiatives for staff and students as a teacher on special assignment and has previously taught kindergarten, as well as first, second and third grade.
Both Monson and Bowman have served in their new roles since July 1.
Over the summer, students interviewed Monson and Bowman to introduce them to their school communities. Watch Monson’s video and Bowman’s video.
