Parents/guardians: join us to review new middle and high school health materials
(01/04/19) Parents/guardians, students, and staff, are invited to review new secondary health materials at an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 22, at the Educational Service Center located at 2727 N Ferry St. in Anoka.
People who attend the open house will have an opportunity to provide feedback after interacting with proposed textbooks and accompanying teaching tools that are currently being piloted in secondary classrooms.
Over the past year, the district’s Secondary Health Study Committee has been studying health materials used in middle and high school classrooms. The committee is made up largely of secondary health teachers, but also parents and district personnel. Through an extensive study process, the committee has found two secondary health materials that will meet the needs of district students and families.
The district has partnered with Pearson (Health) and McGraw Hill (Glencoe Health) at the high school level, and Goodheart Wilcox (Essential Health Skills) and McGraw Hill (Glencoe Teen Health) at the middle school level to pilot their materials during trimester two (Dec. 4, 2018 through Feb. 15, 2019). The implementation of the pilot will provide the Secondary Health Study Committee with vital information in making the best recommendation to meet the need of students, and will be combined with input received during the Jan. 22 open house.
A final recommendation is expected later this year.
