In-Touch Message from the Principal, February 8, 2019

Hello Jackson families, this is Mr. Hagerty with a couple of announcements and reminders regarding the safety of our children and I am asking for your help and your patience.

Due to the cancellation of all after-school activities yesterday, February 7, we will host both the Talent Show dress rehearsal and the Jackson Got Talent Show this evening, February 8.  The dress rehearsal will take place immediately after school and the show will begin at 7:00 in our lower gymnasium.

A reminder to all parents who pick up and drop off students that you must use our east pool parking lot and follow the posted directions.  Dropping off or picking up students on 109th Ave or in the CBPA Elementary west lot is simply not an option.  We are asking our staff and our School Resource Officer to patrol these areas more often now in light of the current road and weather conditions.

Next, I appreciated your patience yesterday at dismissal when I needed to make a last-minute decision to hold students in class for an extra few minutes because we had only 7 of our 40 buses on location by 3:05.  We needed to make sure sidewalks and crosswalks were clear and bus and parking lot supervisors were in place at dismissal.  It was much safer to keep our students in classrooms with teachers than have 2100 students outside waiting in the inclement weather.

Next, we are in need of more chaperones for our 6th grade Energy Day (Mill City Museum/MN History Center) on February 15.  If you are available to help out, please contact our Parent Volunteer Coordinator, Kristine Wippich, at 763-506-5231 or, as soon as possible.  Your child does not need to be in 6th grade for you to volunteer for this fun and educational event.  Thank you so much.

Lastly, as much as your children may not like this message, it is critical to know who your child is communicating with on social media.  Please continue to talk with your children, use parental controls that you are comfortable with, and know who they are talking to while on social media. Our school and our School Resource Officer have received numerous concerns from the community and we need your help as parents and guardians.

All of these topics will be brought to a future JMS Parent Partnership Team meeting.   We would love to have you join us for this dialog and are very open to suggestions and solutions from our families.

Thank you and have a good weekend.
