District enrollment holds steady, shows growth from 2020-21 school year
(12/02/2021) Anoka-Hennepin’s 2021-22 school enrollment shows an overall increase of 281 students from the 2020-21 school year, 13 more than projected. Officially, this year’s K-12 enrollment is 36,606 students.
The elementary count drove the enrollment, as increases were shown at both the kindergarten (+229) and grades 1-5 (+47) levels for a total increase of 276 K-5 students.
Sunrise Elementary School, which opened in 2019, came in at 45 students over projections, bringing its total count to 1,108 students. Dayton Elementary School saw the second highest increase of K-5 students in the district, with 40 students over projections for a total enrollment of 571.
The high school student count increased by 170 from the previous school year with Champlin Park High School leading the way with 3,084 students, 70 students more than projected. Jackson Middle School, at 1,962 students, came in at 69 students over projections.
Continued growth in population in certain areas has caused the district to close open enrollment at a number of schools to ensure the district serves residents that live within the attendance area of the schools.
The Anoka-Hennepin Virtual Academy (AHVA), which opened this fall, enrolled 847 students this school year, including 425 elementary and 127 middle school students.
Additional information regarding enrollment at both the district and school level is available with the October 1 enrollment report, a document published each year and posted online for review.
