Andover High School girls hockey advances to Class AA State semifinals
(02/20/2020) The second-seeded Andover High School girls hockey team advanced to the semifinals of the 2020 Class AA Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Tournament with a 6-0 win over Farmington High School on Feb. 20.
The shutout win marked Andover’s fourth straight in the postseason. The Huskies outscored their opponents 31-0 in the Section 7AA Tournament before opening the state tournament with a shutout victory.
While Andover’s top line was held scoreless in the state tournament opener, the underclassmen stepped up big for the Huskies. Sophomore Madison Kaiser opened the floodgates scoring five minutes into the contest. The Huskies held a 2-0 lead after the first period thanks to one of freshmen Madelynn Jurgensen’s two goals on the day.
Andover went on to score two more goals in the second and third periods to cruise to a 6-0 win.
The Huskies (26-2) will take on No. 3 seed Minnetonka High School on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Visit the MSHSL website for ticket information.
