COVID-19 restrictions to end, what this means for schools
(05/07/2021) State officials announced a three-step process on May 6 that will lead to an end of all COVID-19 facility restrictions in Minnesota by May 28, and an end to the state masking requirement by July 1 or sooner should vaccination levels hit 70% of Minnesotans ages 16 and above across the state.
The same announcement indicated that since our youngest students are not eligible for the vaccine, the MN Safe Learning Plan will continue to the end of the school year, Friday, June 10. The document is expected to be updated based on the most current guidance.
Outdoor face covering requirement lifted, indoor remains
Starting immediately, face coverings will no longer be required outdoors. Face coverings will continue to be required indoors until the statewide requirement is lifted.
Graduation guidance eases May 28
Schools will continue to use the MN Safe Learning Plan and Minnesota Department of Health guidance for school events through the remainder of the school year. High school graduation will have limited restrictions other than the possibility of attendees at indoor ceremonies requiring a face covering. Further details will be provided as MDH guidance documents are finalized.
Looking forward
Anoka-Hennepin Schools will continue updates regarding impacts of this guidance to the remainder of the school year, summer school programming and possible impacts to the 2021-22 school year. The Minnesota Department of Education and Minnesota Department of Health have shared they are optimistic that the need for MN Safe Learning Plan guidance for COVID-19 mitigation will not be necessary for the 2021-22 school year.
