Symphonic Rock set to return to Anoka High School
(03/01/19) Anoka High School (AHS) has announced the return of Symphonic Rock, the iconic classic rock program that has delighted audiences since 2011.
Two shows are currently set for March 29 and 30, both starting at 7:30 p.m., and held at Anoka High School. All seats are $15, and tickets are available now at anokasymphonicrockreturns.com.
Symphonic Rock is a blend of rock band, symphony orchestra and chorus. “We’re very excited to reunite our rock band, Staff Infection, with all its regular members, to join the Anoka Concert Choir and Orchestra for an evening of some of the greatest classic rock tunes of all time,” said AHS choir director Michelle Hayes. “We have been so pleased with how the community has embraced this concert and felt it was time to bring it back one more time.”
Symphonic Rock began as a benefit concert to help AHS students and families in need. Through principal Mike Farley’s concerns about these families, the AHS music department and Staff Infection proposed a concert that would raise money that could be easily accessed to help some of our students live a more comfortable school life. Since 2011, Symphonic Rock has raised more than $230,000 through ticket sales and donations at the concerts. All proceeds go into the Anoka Caring and Sharing Fund which directly impacts students and families in need at AHS.
“If you’re new to Symphonic Rock you will receive an overload of the senses with laser lights, fog, and everything you would expect from a rock concert,” Hayes said. “It will be loud and exciting! Tickets will go fast so you don’t want to wait.”
“We’re so happy to get back on the AHS stage with students who have never had the chance to do this concert,” said conductor/arranger, and retired AHS band director Mike Halstenson. “I can’t wait to play for people who have never experienced Symphonic Rock and of course to see the incredible number of people in our community who will return with us.”
