Andover High School students learn about wildlife habitat through a prescribed burn
(05/13/2022) Students at Andover High School had the opportunity to learn about the process of a prescribed burn in a live demonstration May 6. The Minnesota Department of Resources (MN DNR) assisted in the prescribed burn and uses it as a tool to achieve various land management objectives.
A parcel of land on the school property has been designated as a Prairie Restoration Site, and for the past 20 years science teacher Bob Ameli has been using the site as an educational tool to enhance lessons.
The project was designed to maintain the health of the habitat and create an exciting educational opportunity for students to discuss the importance of maintaining the health of natural habitats.
