District population set at 255,645
(07/02/2025) Anoka-Hennepin Schools serves 13 communities in Anoka and Hennepin counties that now include an estimated population of 255,645 as verified by the School Board at its June 23 meeting.
Why it matters: The population estimate is used in calculations in funding formulas and aid programs provided through the state of Minnesota. Continued growth also serves as an indicator of community appeal and viability.
New record: The 255,645 population is the highest total in the history of the Anoka-Hennepin School District since the district which was formed in 1952.

Of the 13 communities that comprise Anoka-Hennepin, the cities of Anoka, Champlin and Coon Rapids are the only three that are completely served by the school district.

Spread across 172 square miles, the district is comprised of portions of 13 suburban communities: Andover, Anoka, Blaine, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, Coon Rapids, Dayton, Fridley, Ham Lake, Nowthen, Oak Grove and Ramsey. The communities are part of Anoka and Hennepin counties.

The district employs over 8,400 staff members and serves over 37,000 students at 24 elementary schools, six middle schools, five traditional high schools, two alternative secondary schools, special education and early childhood education sites.
