Historic night: Inaugural boys volleyball season gets underway at all five district high schools
(04/03/2025) Monday, March 31, 2025, was a historic night at all five Anoka-Hennepin high schools. All schools hosted their first boys’ volleyball matches as a sanctioned Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) co-curricular activity.
Scores from March 31:
- Andover defeated Irondale in five sets (19-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-10).
- Anoka defeated Spring Lake Park in five sets (25-20, 24-26, 26-24, 20-25, 15-12).
- Blaine swept Park Center (25-10, 25-20, 25-17).
- Champlin Park lost to Maple Grove in four sets (20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 20-25).
- Coon Rapids defeated Elk River in four sets (25-23, 16-25, 26-24, 25-23).

Hilley Leading Champlin Park Boys Volleyball in First-Ever MSHSL Season.
The Anoka-Hennepin School Board approved the addition of boys volleyball at a regular meeting on Aug. 26 and nearly seven months later, competition officially got underway.
Each school program supports a varsity and junior varsity team with a cap of 32 athletes per school. The MSHSL approved boys’ volleyball as a sanctioned sport in May, making Minnesota the 25th state to offer it as a co-curricular activity.
Andover and Blaine high schools compete in Section 7A while Anoka, Champlin Park and Coon Rapids high schools compete in Section 8A.
