Synthetic turf field projects underway at district stadiums
(07/08/2021) The installation of synthetic turf fields at all five Anoka-Hennepin stadiums is well underway. Construction crews have been doing groundwork and soil corrections at each of the five sites since the conclusion of this year’s spring activities season.
Work began at Andover, Blaine, Champlin Park and Coon Rapids high schools and the stadium at Goodrich Field in Anoka to prepare for the installation of synthetic turf fields. View photos from each site.
Excess topsoil from Champlin Park High School was transferred to Jackson Middle School to assist in the reconditioning of areas following the removal of portable classrooms.
The introduction of lacrosse as a Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL)-sponsored sport in 2007 created more demand for field use in the spring. Fields now have less opportunity to rejuvenate during the spring season.
The new synthetic turf facilities will provide increased access for school curriculum and activities, a reduction in need for alternative facility rentals and an increased opportunity for revenue through field rentals to offset costs. Schools will also have the ability to host MSHSL state tournaments in which synthetic turf fields are required.
All projects are within the projected budget and are programmed to be in operation for the fall of 2021.
The Anoka-Hennepin School Board approved a capital project to install synthetic turf fields at all five district high school stadiums at the Jan. 11 regular meeting.
