Coon Rapids High School set to host event to commemorate 20th anniversary of 9/11

(09/08/2021) Coon Rapids High School - Center for Biomedical Sciences and Engineering (CRHS) will host an event alongside the City of Coon Rapids to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that took place in the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001.

The event will be held from 12-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at the outdoor stadium, located at 2340 Northdale Blvd. NW.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with members of the armed forces and first responders and see emergency vehicles and artifacts from the World Trade Center.

At 2 p.m., the ceremony will begin with color guards, music and a 21-gun salute. CRHS principal John Peña, a native of New York, and Eric Aamoth of Plymouth, who each lost relatives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, will speak. The ceremony will conclude with a flyover of North American P-51 Mustangs and a fireworks display.

Emergency vehicles and participants will then travel to Coon Rapids Fire Station #1 where a steel I-beam from the World Trade Center will be on permanent display.
